What We Believe

At Motif Worship, we believe that music should be a vehicle for worship, not the other way around.

Perhaps that statement should be unpacked a bit.

We believe, like theologian John Piper, that man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Therefore, we believe that worshiping God, or expressing His worth with freedom of conviction, is the main way that we come to know God, which is a partial prerequisite for glorifying or enjoying him.

Furthermore, we believe that music, personal and essential as it is to life and humanity, is but only one reflection of the lifestyle of worship that people were created to live out.

Moreover, we believe that worship music, when it is done with creativity and artistic integrity, not only brings glory to God, but exists as an agent of sanctification and transformation in the life of a person who chooses to follow Him.

Most importantly, we believe that life change, and the eternal salvation it signifies, is only possible through a saving relationship with a triune God, expressed through the supremacy and Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Motif Worship was developed as an outgrowth of the worship ministry of Irvington Covenant Church in Portland Ore.

As such, it abides by and identifies with many of the affirmations and distinctives of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
